From the series, "The Ten Most Popular Places to Dump a Body in the Columbia River Gorge"
"The Pit: Larch Mountain. This is an area of Larch Mountain that has been clear-cut by automatic weapon gunfire. It is not a government sanctioned shooting range, but an area declared so by the locals. This site is particularly eerie not only as an area torn apart by AK47s, but also as the murder site from a "thrill kill" by a couple of the area's youth. Larch Mountain was considered by the sheriff's department to be "lawless" and, up until recently, not even the police would approach the area alone."
